Amite County Warrant Searches
Any Amite County warrant search begins with one question: which office holds the file? Four different hands touch the paper. The Sheriff, the Justice Court Clerk, the Circuit Clerk, and three municipal courts each keep their own slice of the records. None publishes a searchable list online. A warrant lookup here happens by phone or in person, never through a web form.
- Start with the Sheriff at 601-657-8057 if the question involves a recent arrest, booking, or execution.
- Call the Justice Court Clerk at 601-657-4527 for a traffic, DUI, or county-ordinance matter.
- Call the Circuit Clerk at 601-657-8932 for a felony or indictment question.
- Call the city court in Centreville, Gloster, or Liberty for a municipal citation.
- Check PAMEC or PACER only if the case sits with a participating circuit or federal court.
No Countywide Portal: The Call-First Path
Plenty of counties offer a sheriff search box that returns a name in seconds. Amite County does not. The county's own official pages show no such portal, so an online Amite County warrant check simply is not part of the picture. Anyone expecting a quick digital result will burn time hunting for something that was never built. The upside of a small, rural system is that a live person usually answers. Call early in the day, have a name and an approximate date ready, and ask the clerk to spell back any docket number. That approach beats searching a website that does not exist, and it gets a warrant question to the right clerk on the first try.
What a Warrant Search Asks For
Because the search happens by phone, the "fields" are really the details a clerk asks for. Every Amite County office wants a full legal name at minimum. Most will also narrow a common surname with a date of birth or a citation number.
| Field | Where It Helps | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Full legal name | every office | spelling variants can miss a match |
| Date of birth | Sheriff, Justice, Circuit | narrows a shared surname |
| Citation or case number | Justice Court, municipal courts | fastest route to the exact file |
| Issuing agency | Justice Court Clerk | Sheriff and Highway Patrol tickets both route here |
What to Have Ready Before You Call
- Full legal name, spelled clearly, plus any alias on record
- An approximate date: the ticket date, arrest date, or court setting
- A citation, case, or docket number if any paperwork exists
- Whether the question is about the caller's own record or a relative's
- A pen and paper to write down the office, name, and next step given
Amite County Warrant Search Results
A clerk who finds a match in Amite County records will describe the entry, not hand it over. Certified copies take an in-person or written request.

|---|---|
| Charge / Offense | the offense on the affidavit, citation, or indictment |
| Issuing Court | Justice Court, Circuit Court, or the named municipal court |
| Bond | cash, secured, personal recognizance, or no bond until appearance |
| Status | issued, executed, returned, recalled, or quashed |
The Centreville Address Conflict
Centreville's own court page lists 216 East Joseph Street. The police department page says the department moved to Town Hall at 1 Municipal Drive in 2020. Both are official Centreville pages. Neither has been corrected to match the other. A caller who drives to the wrong address on an Amite County warrant question loses time a phone call would have saved.
Caution: call Centreville court or police at 601-645-5917 before a walk-in visit, since the correct current address has not been reconciled between the two official pages.
Amite County Warrants: Who Holds What
County-level warrants sit with the Sheriff, Justice Court, or Circuit Court, while city-level warrants stay with the municipal court that issued them. A county search does not automatically surface a Centreville, Gloster, or Liberty warrant. A city clerk cannot speak to a Justice Court or Circuit Court file. Amite County warrants issued elsewhere raise a separate question. A statewide search would run through the Mississippi Criminal Information Center, but that system serves authorized law enforcement, not the public. A full warrant check often means calling more than one office before ruling anything out.
Why the State CIC Can't Answer a Phone Search
Mississippi's Criminal Information Center feeds the National Crime Information Center and shares wants-and-warrants data with authorized officers statewide. It is not a public lookup tool. No Amite County office can pull a public report from it for a caller. Treating it like a public warrant database leads to a dead end. The county, circuit, and municipal offices covered elsewhere remain the actual public route.
Which Warrants Stay Restricted
Not every warrant can be confirmed by a plain phone call in Amite County. Some categories stay closed to protect an investigation, a minor, or a pending case.
Key Rules:
Active investigative files are generally exempt from disclosure under Miss. Code § 25-61-3, even when a related incident report is public.
Youth Court records involving a minor are confidential under state law and should never be requested as a routine warrant search.
A warrant may be withheld until served for officer-safety reasons; absence from a phone confirmation is not proof one does not exist.
When the Search Is Federal Instead of County
Paperwork naming a United States District Court, a federal agency, or the U.S. Marshals Service points away from county offices entirely. An Amite County clerk has no role in those files. The official PACER pricing page lays out what a federal docket search costs.
PACER, the federal docket system, charges ten cents a page, with most documents capped near three dollars, and a no-match search can still be billed as one page. Amite County sits in the Southern District of Mississippi. The Marshals Service there runs a fugitive tip line separate from any county channel. No county clerk can recall or explain a federal warrant.
